Kids Help Make Pirohi

2nd graders at Binghamton's Woodrow Wilson School got a neat way of developing positive behavior and becoming expert pirohy makers at the same time.

Today they helped their neighborhood church, Saint Michael's make its tradition lenten pirohi.

The students have been working on being respectful, responsible and safe.

Volunteering goes along with that.

It's also a way to say thank you to Saint Michael's which recently donated winter coats to the school.

Kristin Eno says, "Some of my kids were recipients of the jackets so I thought tying in some community service with the respect and responsibility and other character education traits we're promoting in school would be a good lesson for the kids. It's also some cultural awareness by learning about another culture."

The lenten pirohi sale is in full swing again this week after last week's snow storm forced the sale to be cancelled for the first time in 46 years.

Saint Michael's is on Clinton Street in Binghamton.

The lenten delicacies will be available tomorrow from 9 til 11 am. and from 1-30 to five in the afternoon. A luncheon will be held from 11-30 until 1-30.

DMD,

Hope the sale went well. It promised to be such a nice day (and turned out that way, too) that I was truly tempted to make the trip, but woke up with the makings of a cold, including a headache that wouldn't quit, so ... the day and the ambitious plan was lost frown

Many years,

Neil

Btw, loved the video - the kids looked as if they were really enjoying themselves.

The local CBS station covered this week's sale and visit from another class from the local public school. http://www.wbng.com/news/local/87391907.html Will Bennett, interviewed in the clip, is completing his undergraduate education at Indiana University Pennsylvania and is classified as an undergraduate seminarian in residence at nearby Christ the Saviour Seminary in Johnstown,PA. Will's uncle is an Orthodox priest in Ohio and his grandfather is a deacon-candidate at our parish.
