And Who Sing the Thrice-Holy Hymn” — Delivering the Heavenly Word Through the Choir

Liturgical Singing Seminar — Chicago
June 4-6, 2010
Holy Virgin Protection Cathedral, Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), Des Plaines, Illinois.

Hands-on workshops, practical lectures. Choral rehearsals, joyful participation in the Divine Services. The 2010 Liturgical Singing Seminar will address the liturgical music needs of our diocese, and welcomes any interested church musicians from other dioceses and jurisdictions. The seminar is hosted by the Liturgical Music Committee of the Diocese of Chicago and Mid-America, with the blessing of His Grace, Bishop Peter of Cleveland.

Come meet and connect with church musicians from across the diocese and beyond. In our mutual love for the liturgical music traditions of the Russian Orthodox Christian faith, we’ll come together to support one another, grow in the Faith, learn from each other, and create lasting bonds of fellowship.

All choir directors, singers, and clergy are invited. All levels of experience, from beginner to advanced, are welcome. The lectures will be in English; singing will be in English and Church Slavonic. Transliterated scores are available on request.

Delicious vegetarian meals will be provided, with the exception of Friday evening dinner, when we encourage attendees to enjoy an evening out. We will provide suggestions for restaurants and transportation for those who need it. Many a friendship has been formed through such opportunities for relaxation and camaraderie!

Participants will receive a bound score and other conference materials.
