I recently heard an Orthodox priest saying that the Fathers interpreted "be fruitful and multiply" to mean that Adam and Eve were to make creation, of which they were stewards, be fruitful and increase. This priest says that the Fathers taught that sexual intercourse is a result of the Fall, and as such Adam and Eve did not engage in it prior to the Fall. He did not give any sources for this.
Yet if this is the case, then how does one interpret Gen 3:16, where the Lord says He will increase Eve's labour pains? It seems to imply that she was already able to concieve prior to the Fall.
Anyone have any ideas/insights?

There is an interesting new series of OT and NT of patristic interpretations.
Also another 5 vol series on the Creed. We Believe and one "Worshiping with the Church Fathers."

It is called the Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture (ACCS), also published by InterVarsity Press. The 5 volume series on Ancient Christian Doctrine, such as the Worshiping with the Church Fathers volume, is a separate series. I find the Sacred Scripture series very valuable and I highly recommend it.

The 5 vols on the Creed are also excellent!
"We Believe"
My big question is why do they remain protestant while writing something like that?
