Our pastor, Fr. Matthew Mackay passed away today. He was out jogging and had a heart attack. This comes as a complete surprise to all of us here at St. Joseph's. Our whole church family is rocked.

Pray for our parish, for Fr. Matthew and his family and for our assistant priest, Fr. James Early who has much weight thrown onto his shoulders.

Memory Eternal!

Lord have mercy!

May the Lord forgive the sins of His servant, the Priest Matthew. AMEN. May Fr. Matthew's memory be eternal.

Prayers for the hearts that are grieving and feeling loss without their beloved pastor. Prayers for strength and courage to Fr. James...

(..as for jogging, I have always been suspect of it, and believe the negatives (damage to joints, internal organs, hearts, etc.) far outweigh any of the health benefits. Walking is much safer and more natural)

Father Matthew and his family were our three-doors-down neighbors and fellow parishioners at St. Nicholas when we first moved to Wisconsin (from Houston ironically). He was doing a hospital chaplaincy program in Milwaukee as he awaited ordination.

A good friend and an excellent priest. May his Memory be Eternal!

May the memory of the Lord's servant, the Priest Matthew, be eternal and may his family be comforted in the belief that he serves now at the Holiest Altar.

Prayers for Khouria Lynn, his sons, and family, as well as for his parish family and for Father James, as he assumes responsibility for the parish.

The Very Rev. Fr. Matthew B. MacKay

Last night we had the service for the departure of a Priest, with 36 priests, 9 deacons and Bishop Basil officiating. It was a moving night. I had the honor of spending nearly 2 hours (midnight to 2 AM) reading from the gospels in the church temple, as Fr. Matthew's earthly body lay before the altar and many others came and went, offering prayers and tears.

Today, we have the Divine LIturgy, funeral and burial, along with a mercy meal.

I was touched to see that our church was absolutely packed last night. There were probably 300-400 people crammed in.

Prayers are still coveted for Fr. Matthew, his family and our parish.

Memory Eternal!

I don't think I have ever heard an Orthodox church named after St. Joseph before.

May the Lord have mercy and comfort all.

I do believe it is pretty rare. I have heard that ours in the only Orthodox St. Joseph's parish in the US. I don't know if it is true or not, though.
