It's news - albeit 2 months old. Several times recently, we have discussed the impoverished state of pastoral care afforded to our Ethiopian and Eritrean Catholic brethren in te US. While looking for info on a related matter, I discovered this article from the newspaper of the Latin Catholic Diocese of Columbus.
It describes a meeting in Columbus, held in July, at which some 100 Eritrean Catholics from various countries in the diaspora gathered for the first international conference of the Eritrean Catholic Eparchy of Keren. (One can wonder why the Eparchial Conference was held in Columbus versus in Keren, but we'll have no answer to that, so ... )
The article is
hereStill, the article's description of the pastoral care afforded to the local (Columbus) Eritrean community is pretty sad. Once a month, it meets after (Latin) Mass for "songs, prayers, including the rosary and a Marian litany, and a meal." Three times annually, 'Msss' is served for them - Easter, Christmas, and the Feast of the Assumption.
Prayers for our Eritrean Catholic brethren.
