Fr. Loya's radio program today, #313, included some background about the Syro-Malankara, as well as speaking of the upcoming Inauguration of the Exarchate of USA & Installation Ceremony of the Bishop on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010 at the Marianist Retreat Center in Uniondale, Long Island, New York.

Very interesting! Thanks for posting the link!

There were two or three errors made, though. First, the statistics on the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church are not up-to-date. The Church currently has two metropolitan provinces with a total of eight eparchies in Kerala. Also, the Maronite Church belongs to the West Syrian, not the East Syrian liturgical tradition. Finally, the program incorrectly gives the impression that only the East Syrian tradition uses Aramaic.

Inauguration procession video with ToBasalom sung in background. It shows Malankara, Latin, Bzyantine, Syrian, Maronite, Greek Catholic bishops, priests and seminarians processing before Qurbana/Mass. Can anyone identify the list?

part of qurbana at the installation ceremony in English and Syriac. Personally feel quite difficult get with English qurbana. I dont know whether in US qurbana is celebrated more in Malayalam or English.

The video is apparently as it seems is taken tilted , can listen to the audio well.

Two news reports of the enthronement:

Bishop: Growth of Syro-Malankara Church in US Nourished by Grace

Syro-Malankara Church welcomes new bishop

Some biographical material on Aboon Thomas Mar Eusebius:

http://stjudechurch.com/?cat=1

To address PPJ's question as to the hierarchy in attendance, from the articles cited, these included:

Major Archbishop & Catholicos Baselios Cleemis Thottunkal,

Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan (Latin Archdiocese of New York),

Bishop William Murphy (Latin Diocese of Rockville Centre, which I believe geographically encompasses the high school in which the ceremony was conducted),

Archbishop Francis Chullikatt (Permanent Observer of the Vatican at the United Nations and a Latin, originally of the Archdiocese of Verapoly in Kerala, India)

Although he isn't mentioned specifically, I would presume that Archbishop Pietro Sambi (Apostolic Nuncio to the US) was present.

Francis Cardinal George (Latin Archdiocese of Chicago) and President of the USCCB was mentioned in one article and may well have been present.

I saw two Byzantine bishops in procession - one may have been Bishop Nicholas Samra (Retired Auxiliary of the Eparchy of Newton of the Melkites) - at 0:49 ; I couldn't get a good enough view of the other - at 0:59 - to make even a tentative identification. I imagine that Bishop Jacob Angadiath (Eparchy of St Thomas the Apostle in Chicago of the Syro-Malabar) was in attendance, but I couldn't spot him.

Wasn't able to spot any of the other non-Byzantine Eastern Catholic hierarchs (Armenian, Syriac, Chaldean, or Maronite), but they may be at the ME Synod.

Many years,

Neil

Francis Cardinal George could not attend the event, but he did send his prayers and congratulations.

Aboon Mor Barnaba of the Syriac Catholics was in attendance.

Aboon Mar Jacob of the Malabars concelebrated the Holy Qurbono.

Archimandrite Robert Stern of CNEWA concelebrated the Holy Qurbono.

Chorbishop John D. Faris of the Maronites (Brooklyn) concelebrated the Holy Qurbono.

Bishop John Michael of the Romanian Catholics concelebrated the Holy Qurbono.

Aboon Mor Tithos Yeldho of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church attended the celebrations post-Liturgy.

Great photo, Michael!

Ed, thanks - thought that Bishop John might have been the second Byzantine bishop whom I saw.

Many years,

Neil
