Chiara "Luce" Badano, who reposed in 1990 @ the age of 18, will be beatified today in a ceremony held at the shrine of the Madonna of Divine Love, near Rome.
Although her life as a Latin Catholic has nothing to do directly with Eastern Christianity, I'm posting this because I think she can show us things which surpass ritual Church enrollments and denominational differences. What she gives us is an example of how to embrace the Cross in our lives; how to embrace it joyfully and with serenity. She proposes ways of finding meaning in the midst of loss, pain, disappointment and frustration (boy-o-boy, do I ever need lessons on THAT!) And I suspect most of us find that task to be daunting, if not overwhelming and downright discouraging.
I was put in mind of her while listening to the talks by Fr. Thomas Hopko on a CD called "The Word of the Cross", available from St. Vladimir Seminary.
