Just found out that the original icon of Our Lady of Máriapócs was displayed on the sanctuary of Saint Stephen's cathedral in Vienna during a gathering of Catholics this past Thursday, Sept. 23.

There is controversy about this gathering. Instead of going into detail, you can read it for yourself:

Medjugorje 'seers' hosted by Vienna cathedral

Two of the “seers” who claim to have received more than 40,000 apparitions of the Virgin Mary will speak at a prayer service in Vienna’s cathedral of St. Stephen on Thursday evening, September 22.

Although local bishops in Bosnia have discouraged belief in the alleged apparitions, Ivan Dragicevic and Marija Pavlovic-Lunetti are described in an announcement from the cathedral as belonging to “the group of young people who have received Marian visions at Medjugorje.” In March the Holy See announced that a special commission had been established to study the “Medjugorje phenomenon,” presumably leading up to a formal Vatican statement on the reported apparitions.

Vienna's Cardinal Christoph Schönborn—who is expected to participate in the September 23 prayer service—visited Medjugorje in January 2010 and indicated that he was impressed by what he saw there, although he stopped short of saying that the visions were authentic.

There are 4 videos of the event in which you can see the Máriapócs icon during the prayer service: http://www.marytv.tv/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=64&Itemid=26

Cardinal Schönborn talks about the icon in the latter half of the fourth video.

Personally, I don't think it was a good idea to include the icon for this event.

Perhaps it was not a good idea but then, on the other hand, its inclusion probably didn't hurt anything...it's not like they took the icon out and desecrated it...

Impressed? There are actual supporters of Medjugorje in the hierarchy? Wow.

That's true. It didn't hurt to have the icon displayed.

I personally would like to see it returned to Máriapócs. The icon was taken to Vienna by order of Leopold I, Emperor of Austria.

I just cannot get away from Medjugorgie huh. lol. Hasn't the local Bishop already declared (and I think more than one) it false or something?

Kyrie eleison,
