The Anaphora in Church Slavonic from Christ the Saviour Cathedral, ACROD, Johnstown, PA this Sunday, December 19, 2010 with responses in Carpatho-Russian/Rusyn plain chant. It is good to hear Metropolitan Nicholas' voice sounding strong as he has been ill much of this past year. The responses were led by St. Nicholas Choir, Homestead, PA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqDUtBFnsYQ

I used to be a devoted vernacularist, but I have been forced to reconsider my position.

This was beloved intonation of the late Metropolitan Orestes Chornock. The current Metropolitan Nicholas and my late father were probably the last of his students to chant this in the Slavonic. I am a vernacularist, but with a warm place in my heart for the old ways and it really doesn't sound as majestic in English to my ears.

The Divine Liturgy from which this YouTube video was excerpted was wonderful. His Eminence was the main celebrant, assisted by eight priests, four deacons, subdeacons from the Seminary, and altar servers from the Cathedral. The choir from Homestead did a magnificent job with the responses. The Cathedral was filled to capacity, and then some. The day before, Metropolitan Nicholas tonsured three men as readers, and ordained five men as subdeacons.
All in all, it was a glorious weekend for the diocese and the whole Church!

Beautiful! Thank you for posting it, David.
Many years,
