Monsignor Mark L. Bartchak is Named
Eighth Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown

This morning at 10 a.m. in Rome, Washington, D.C., and in Altoona, the announcement was made that the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has a new bishop. Msgr. Bartchak is from the Diocese of Erie where he has been a canon lawyer. He will be ordained on Tuesday of Holy Week, April 19, 2011.

God grant him many years.

Bob

I've had the opportunity to meet him several times when I worked in the Diocese of Erie, a very nice man.

May he have as fruitful a relationship with his brother Bishop residing in Johnstown, Metropolitan Nicholas, as did his predecessor!

Bishop Joseph will be moving into my neighborhood. He bought a home in a development in a former orchard that overlooks my neighborhood.

Bob

PS: Hoping Metropolitan Nicholas is doing well. Had heard his health wasn't good a few months back.

We hope to see him for Theophany, weather permitting, as he is ordaining a Deacon from my home parish.
