My favorite Fulton Sheen quote: "Parents, if you want your children to lose their Catholic faith, by all means send them to a Catholic college or university".

Boy, he had that pegged. Even in the early 1960s.

Let's get this worthwile topic back on a productive track!

I'm glad that the Eparchy is hosting this event. This is precisely the way that Catholic Dioceses and Eparchies should use their historical treasures and museums: for evangelization.

Archbishop Sheen is still a model for our time and definitely a model for evangelization. His use of media brought the understandable and orthodox gospel to millions. His keen intellect and ability to dialogue with modern thought, I believe, is something which we can emulate today.

I can say that personally his work "The Priest is Not His Own" was of great benefit in my formation, and "Treasure in Clay" and "Those Mysterious Priests" sit in my bedroom, waiting for the time to read them as well.

Of course, there were things which he struggled with; most famously, pride. Thank God for His Divine Mercy!

Kudos to Bishop William for hosting this, and I'd like to compliment my friend Ray for the beautiful Icon. Hopefully someday we will be able to see be a nimbus around the Archbishop's head!

He certainly had more charisma and stage presence in his ring finger than all the talking heads on EWTN combined; most Catholic bishops, as compared to him, sound like mid-level managers addressing a stockholder's meeting of a major corporation. But stuff like that cannot really be "learned"--it's instinctive.

Bless, Father Jon,

Thank you for bringing the thread back on topic. I've trimmed the irrelevant material and expect that it won't be necessary to do so again.

Many years,

Neil

It is wonderful to see that the Eparchies have taken on an involvement in the cause for Archbishop Sheen's canonization - Parma, which created the exhibit and Passaic in hosting it. And I join Father Jon in admiring the icon painted by our friend and brother, Ray.

Many years,

Neil
