Mar Bawai Soro is a former Assyrian bishop and now a Chaldean Catholic whose passion and life's work have been aimed at the attainment of Christ's prayer for the unity of the Church - "that they may be one" (John 17:21). This book is the published edition of his doctoral dissertation which he received in Rome. Most of us in the West have very little, if any, information about the Church of the East, so he fills a gap in our knowledge of this ancient Church.

Mar Bawai has two objectives with this book: to demonstrate the apostolic nature of the Church of the East and to defend its Orthodoxy in the person of her "Saints", Theodore and Nestorius in particular. He also offers a compelling story of the missionary enterprise of the Church of the East as it reached out to India and China. At one time, there were more members of the Church of the East than all the other Christians in the rest of the world.

Although this is a serious, scholarly work, it is well-written and understandable for lay readers.
