Latin Catholic Member Registered: 05/23/08 Posts: 1505 Loc: Norway	It was announced today that Pope Benedict XVI has confirmed the election of His Beatitude Svyatoslav (Shevchuck) as the new Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. His Beatitude is the youngest member of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. His election reminds me of the election of His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis, who was also the youngest member of his Synod when he was elected in 2007. Congratulations to the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church! Ad multos annos!

At least that's what Google tells me... I spoke to Fr. Ivan Hudz, one of the ukrainian priests in Portugal. He has been chosen to be one of the three priests who personally get to great the Major-archbishop at the end of the ceremony on Sunday. He will be accompanied by one from America and another from Ukraine, he was off to the airport and quite excited when I reached him. He told me he too was surprised, but confident that this was the choice of the Holy Spirit. I asked if this might be a way for the church to move ahead, and out of a frame of mind still heavily marked by the soviet persecution and ecumenical hostility, and he said he agreed. We shall see! Many years!

During their stay in Rome, the spiritual leaders of UGCC will meet with Pope Benedict XVI and participate in joint Divine Services.
