That the start of our Dormition Fast coincides this year with the Muslim observance of Ramadan is perhaps not a coincidence; nor is the fact that it ends on Aug. 29, a day of fasting comemmorating the beheading of St. John, the Baptizer of Christ.

Maybe it's a chance for us to try to develop a sense of solidarity with them...to pray with and for them. What could it hurt?

Remember, we're not supposed to pray with people outside the Faith. Makes it look like we consent to what they pray to, which is idols and demons. But we can certainly pray forthem.

What would be the basis of this "solidarity", considering (a) that they believe we are utterly mistaken about Jesus Christ; and (b) that the ultimate objective of Islam is the subjugation of all non-Muslims under Sharia law? When a Muslim can convert to Christianity without fear for his life, when there are as many churches in Riyadh as there are mosques in Rome, then I might think there is some basis for this "solidarity".
