A long time ago someone gave me several back issues of St Vladimir's Theological Quarterly. These have set upon a forgotten shelf in a spare room for many years. I just came across an interesting interpretation of the Second Council of Lyons that I decided to scan for ease of reference. The article is from 1983 so it is a bit dated. Still, I thought it might be of some interest to Forum members. I contacted Professor Papadakis (thanks to the help of Irish Melkite!) and he has graciously given permission to post it here, though saying it is "not one of my best surely." He also mentioned he has an article in the most recent issue of SVTQ on the Filioque.

Anyway, it may be of some interest to those who have an interest in the history of that era and the attempted unions between East and West.

The article can be downloaded here: Ecumenism in the 13th Century: The Byzantine Case

Professor Papadakis is also the author of The Christian East and the Rise of the Papacy and Crisis in Byzantium.
