BUFFALO, N.Y. — Parishioners at a Catholic church in Buffalo are writing their own letters to God to replace the century-old ones found in a cross atop the building's cupola.
Workers replacing the copper cupola on Corpus Christi Catholic Church recently found the letters written by students at the Corpus Christi School in the early 20th century. According to the church's lore, a Polish nun came up with the idea to have the schoolchildren write letters to God, then place the writings in a cross on the cupola atop the newly constructed church.
The letters are unreadable after more than a century's worth of dampness. So church officials decided to have parishioners write new letters to God. The Buffalo News reports (
