His Eminence John Patrick Cardinal Foley, 76, died Sunday in Philadelphia after a long battle with leukemia.

Known as the Vatican's "Voice of Christmas" in his role as English-language commentator for the Pope's Midnight Mass -- the world's most watched religious broadcast - for 26 years, Cardinal Foley retired to his native Philadelphia earlier this year.

Eternal Memory!

May the Cardinal's memory be eternal!

How very sad! I always look forward to watching this broadcast after returning home from Great Compline, and you couldn't help but be drawn into the Mass more closely and intimately by virtue of the Cardinal's commentary. His passion for the Universal Catholic Church and his love of Christ somehow were manifestly evident in and projected by the tenor of his voice.

Eternal memory! Vichnaya pamjat, Vladyko!
