Hi,

A friend of mine bought me a souvenir from an icon workshop in Greece.

When opened it says ΑΓΙΑ ΓΡΑΦΗ (no bible inside though). Does anybody know what the custom is with items like these? Am I supposed to keep anything inside it, carry it around, etc.? Thank you.

I don't know what it's called but if it opens up and is somewhat small, people write a petition, or the name of a person in need on a little scrap of paper and put it in there. It can be worn or carried in pocket. And so you get always reminded to pray for the petition or name of a person written down in it...I suppose it could be called a "prayer-box" (?) A Christian version of a mezuzah...
