Kudos to the Eparchy for the calendars - and the changes to the eparchial website (not sure just how new those are, haven't visited it in a while), which are very impressive. That's also a very well-written and thoughtful Christmas Pastoral Letter [melkite.org.au] from Sayedna Robert

By far the finest Christmas pastoral letter that I have read this season.

I have a question about the readings during the weekdays of the Great Lent. The lectionary here gives only Old Testament readings, while the Melkite Calendar gives Epistle and Gospel readings for the Divine Liturgy on that days. Does it mean that serving Divine Liturgy is allowed during the weekdays of Lent and the first three days of Holy week?

The Melkite Calendar shows the readings for the Divine Liturgy on those week days of the Great Fast, where the Liturgy is not normally celebrated. These are the readings to use, if the eparch (bishop) deems that a certain feast or saint has enough importance to celebrate the Divine Liturgy. It does not mean to imply that the Divine Liturgy is normally celebrated on those days.

I didn't have room on the calendars to explain this. If you receive the daily readings by e-mail or RSS feed, check them on the web site, or use one of the smart phone apps ("Melkite Readings" on iPhone or Android), then it is clearly marked as: "The Divine Liturgy is not normally celebrated on these days ..."

Sorry for the confusion. We added the readings to assist those that used them to assist their meditation and prayer.
