To the question whether byzantium was greek or not, is not given satisfactory answer.
It's worth mentioning that there was never an establishment of a greek christian empire; neither was the eastern half of roman empire, after 330 A.D, ment to be a greek one. Actually, latin was its official language up to the 7th century. Whereas roman was its name throughout its history.
