The Daily Ichthys was formed in June of 2011. It's original purpose was to provide the world with the Traditional Typicon (Calendar) of the Eastern Catholic and Orthodox Churches. It is progressively becoming something much greater. It is now set up to provide information about the Byzantine Catholic Church. It is on it's way to become a Reference for Byzantine Catholic Information and a source of News. However, most importantly it is becoming an instrument of Prayer to enrich ones life through the tradition of the Byzantine Catholic; to encourage us to let Christ shine through all of our Thoughts, Words, Deeds and Omissions.

This post is inviting you to go to the link:

And to type in your email in the subscribe box to receive the Daily Typicon, Verse & Reflection, and Prayer.

We would love to receive some feedback!

Thank you, God Bless, & Slava Isusu Christu

Interesting website.

One initial criticism I have is that you are using the article on "Eastern Catholics" from the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia. It contains far too many out-of-date references and inaccuracies. Use something that is current such as the information on Anthony Dragani's website or from the book "101 Questions and Answers on the Eastern Catholic Churches."

My brother, Rybak, is kinder than me, I'd call the site something other than interesting.

The choice of that 1913 piece from New Advent as descriptive of Eastern Catholicism is a less than edifying choice, as already noted.

As to the 'News' section, it appears to be hot-button-pushing and agenda-driven and generally reads like a Catholic version of the National Enquirer. It's replete with links to articles, blog entries, etc on controversial, politicized, and inflammatory topics - I see next to nothing of note regarding news of particular focus on or interest to the Eastern Churches, Byzantine or otherwise.

Sorry, but I don't see your website as soon replacing this or any other substantive Eastern Christian site.

Many years,

Neil

Dear Neil,

Thank you, I will be working on replacing the 'Eastern Catholicism' piece of my website with something more substantial as soon as I find something. The use of the Catholic Encyclopedia was a simple one and I believed sufficient, until now.

As for the News, I honestly just put on there what I find and think others my find interesting, shocking, encouraging, spiritually helpful, or politically important.

And pertaining toward your comment about my site replacing others. That is not my goal. Rather then replace a good Catholic site or Eastern Christian site I am trying to add to the number of them.

Sincerely Yours in Christ,

DI: I too had occasion to take a look at your work online, and was a little surprised by the mostly provocative nature of subject matter covered in the news clippings. Not that we should ignore such things, but I think we in the East tend to be a little more reserved.

That said, I would recommend that you consider news feeds on developments relating to Eastern Christianity first and foremost. This is subject matter of specific interest to BCs and this community (this Forum), and would likely yield a better response. This is especially true given the current plight of Christian communities throughout the Middle East, and we should be ever mindful and supportive as much as possible.

Blessings for your efforts to promote our faith!
Joe
