Pictures from St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic in Perth Amboy, 1940s

Picture in the last row, in the middle. Deacons vested just as Latin deacons.

And by the way, as my Byzantine brethren 'de-Latinize', feel free to send Latin vestments, communion rails, stations of the cross, etc. to me! laugh

Those pictures were interesting given their context and the time in which they took place. If my memory is correct, St. Nicholas was founded after the split with what remains as St. John's ACROD Church a few blocks away.

The magnificent St. John's was built by the Rusyn Greek Catholic immigrants in the early 20th century and emulated the architecture and interior design of the famed Rusyn pilgrimage church as well as the interior of the Uzhorod and Presov cathedral churches. https://picasaweb.google.com/11328162611...CI_cvNWL45r71gE

The 'new' church was constructed in a none-too-subtle manner as to remind the faithful that they were clearly united with Rome. (The same holds true with the original interior design of Holy Spirit BCC in Binghamton, NY)

Thankfully, the 2009 series of pictures shows that one may be faithful to Rome without abandoning one's Eastern heritage! Somewhat ironic since that was the point of the priests and laypeople of KOVO in their poignant initial responses and pleas to Rome regarding Cum Data Fuerit!
