So I'm a Catholic who's always been somewhat interested in eastern spirituality and the Eastern Catholic churches and I was just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for books or articles to read?

If I may be so bold I admit a preference for something which avoids polemic, in particular I do not want something that spends a large proportion of its time talking about latinisations. Anything old i.e 19th or mid 20the century, anything pre-Vatican 2 would be interesting.

I'm interested in particular in any changes as regards the attitudes of others to eastern catholics, their own attitudes and to work whether the complains about latinisations are justified or not. In order to do this I need to look at stuff either from both points of view or at the very least from a netural point of view.

Thanks in advance

Did you check any of the other threads on the board? The is a discussion going aobut books that one might begin with to get a feel for Eastern Catholicism.

Adam Deville is a member of our forum and has a great book blog which you can get some recommendations from:

You might also check out the You Tube videos featuring the Greek Catholic monks of Holy Resurrection Monastery in Wisconsin.

I don't know if you are interested in podcasts or not, but Fr. Thomas Loya's "Light of the East Radio" is excellent. He's conciliatory and not polemic. I enjoy his broadcasts very much.

As well as Father Tom's broadcasts, you might also enjoy those broadcast by our Orthodox brethren on Ancient Faith Radio, many of which are directed at Eastern spirituality and lacking in polemicism.

Many years,

Neil

^ Good call. "Teach Me Thy Statutes" by Fr. James Early is one such podcast.
