The Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate has announced that it will open a new mission in CA - one specifically intended as a missionary effort - enough so that they've used the word 'American' in styling the mission and announced that it will be served by 4 English-speaking priests on a rotation basis. Good for them!

This is the first real effort that I've seen, ever, by an Oriental Church, of either the Orthodox or Catholic Communions, to definitively reach out and seek to bring folk in who are not of their own historic ethno-cultural heritage.

St. Paul American Coptic Orthodox Church

May St Paul's prosper and be a spiritual benefit to those who come to it!

Many years,

Neil

Fantastic!

I grew up within 2 miles of this church! I wish I still lived in Orange County as I'd definitely stop by to visit from time to time.

Me, I'm all for it. I do think the priests & other people involved in this venture will have their work cut out for them. Coptic Christianity will probably at first come across as too exotic and incompatable with more "mainstream" American religiosity.

The paradox is that that might turn out to be one of the reasons non-Egyptian Americans may eventually embrace it.

St. Mark the Evanglist, pray for us all!

They started one in Chicago as well! Pope Shenouda and his priests really have their hearts and minds on Mission - we would all be blessed to learn from them!
