Paul E. Kennis, 85, Sykesville, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at DuBois Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
Born June 29, 1926, in Sykesville, he was a son of the late Peter and Mary Gilga Kennis. He was married to Ruth Zimmerman Kennis. She preceded him in death in 2007.
He lived his entire life in this area and attended Sykesville School. He was a self-employed farmer.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville, Knights of Columbus in DuBois, Sykesville Fire Department and the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau.
He is survived by four children: Mrs. Mark (Patty) Gresock of Soldier, Ron Kennis and wife Marge of Sykesville, Dan Kennis and wife Mona of Reynoldsville and Cheryl Duttry of Sykesville; two brothers, Peter G. Kennis Jr., RD DuBois, and John R. Kennis and wife Oramae, RD Punxsutawney; six grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Michael; and two sisters, Mary Zimmerman and Margaret I. Kennis.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Leo Nedza Funeral Home, Sykesville. Family Parastas will be held at 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Panachida will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Fr. John Mihalco officiating. Divine Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church, Sykesville, with Fr. John Mihalco officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery, Sykesville.
Memorial donations may be made to DuBois Regional Medical Center Home Health and Hospice or Holy Trinity Byzantine Church.
