My wife found Facebook useful,while our grandkids were out of state. She'd log in first thing when she got up.

I've never been able to get her to check her email, though.

And now she made me buy a new iPad so she could have my 2 . . .

We use our FB page for basic Daily calendar (Saints, liturgies, readings) announcements and to make it easier for me to post announcements on the website. (the FB feed is imbedded in the home page)
I'm not sure how helpful this is, and am open to any suggestions.

You'll soon discover that - except for the occasional one with a lock on it - there are few topics that truly become inactive. (Somebody resurrected a decade old one not long ago.) Actually, until a couple of weeks ago, I had stickied this thread at the top of this forum to encourage folks to add to it. I unstuck it because it had been dormant for a while. If it keeps getting attention, I'll tack it up there again.



I'll be honest in saying that I don't yet have a strong sense as to how helpful parish FB pages are (and no sense at all regarding Twitter, about which I am blissfully ignorant and happy to be so ). However, I began adding FB pages to directory entries about a year ago.

I did it because (1) they are becoming much more common; (2) they are a frequent source of info on events that have a short lead time and don't necessarily make it to parish websites (as your post suggests); (3) they are clearly a rallying point or destination for younger parishioners to whom social media sites are a part of everyday life; and, (4) not uncommonly, they are also routinely perused by the many not-so-young who are on FB because it's a convenient way to keep in touch with far-flung family and friends.

I also post YouTube links on the directory entries of parishes that have a 'YouTube channel'. I don't think it's practical to add Twitter links to the entries (but, what do I know ;confused: ).

Each entry has an embedded set of widgets that allow one to 'tweet' an entry (what that amounts to, I haven't a clue) or allow an entry to be e-mailed or be sent to FB, MSNLive, MySpace, or AOL Livestream.
