Putin, the last Tsar: The Orthodox Church’s approval Giacomo Galeazzi Vatican Insider 5/11/2012 He quells the opposition with force, but Patriarch Kirill sees him as a “gift from heaven.” The alliance between throne and altar becomes an obstacle in the path towards ecumenism More at http://vaticaninsider.lastampa.it/en/homepage/world-news/detail/articolo/russia-rusia-15048/

The one upbeat thing I can think of when it comes to Comrade Vladimir Vladimirovich is that when spelled in French-language texts, in order to maintain an approximation of the Russian pronunciation of his last name, it's spelled "Poutine". Which puts me in mind of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poutine, a concoction that's always brought a smile to my face. Mangez-en! Aussi vous l'aimerez!

It seems that the point of the article is that the Church is becoming entangled with the state which always leaves the Church compromised.

I think they can work together on issues/problems, but I think the church endorsing particular leaders etc... is problematic. As to compromise, have you seen the wristwatch? That is a symbolic counter witness to the Gospel, wealth and power supporting one another.
