I couldn't believe my eyes - Bishop T. D. Jakes preaching on TBN in "Byzantine vestments"! Forward the video clip of his show to 1:50. http://www.itbn.org/index/detail/lib/Networks/sublib/TBN/ec/BsYXZ1NDr9TG6UbHylTJvoTiReqJ8CDh

Those aren't Byzantine vestments. It is a Latin cassock with the shoulder cape (with a ridiculous train) and oversleeves done in brocade.

His outfit most likely comes from Murphy Robes, a popular purveyor of bastardized Roman Catholic clergy attire, absurdly modified to appeal to megachurch preachers and pastors of inner-city churches, the sorts of which sprang-up yesterday and will be gone tomorrow.

All that is true. However, my concern is, how do we evangelize the sincere of their number. What good does it do to complain and point fingers.

If Bishop Jakes were to a wear a white version of that "Byzantine vestement", then it would not be too different from what the fictional Pope Kyrill wears in Shoes of the Fisherman.
In the movie, Pope Kyrill wears three versions of the white papal habit, including this one .
If you look at photo closely, you with see the shoulder cape has a front and back scapular.
Bishop Jakes' vestment had only the back scapular.

When Bishop Jakes starts wearing a papal crown I wonder how many rings it will have on it.

I notice that the fictional Pope Kyrill wears two Archiepiscopal Engolpion, similar to Eastern Patriarch and Catholicoi. Is that historically accurate, if so, when did that stop? (and how do we bring it back?!)
