I've just been informed by my mother that my great-grandmother is near death. It may come in the next few days, or possibly even weeks (doubtful), but considering her longevity of life (97 years) it is relatively close either way.

I feel very blessed to ask for your prayers before her death, as well as after. Please join me in praying for a peaceful, holy death for "Mom."

I don't know that many people have been able to grow into adulthood with a great-grandparent; luckily I had three within living memory. But Mom is the last. Anyway, I've been grateful to know - as a 25 year old adult - an amazing woman from another amazing time, when seemingly most everything was purer. She certainly personally reflects that.

As an aside, she is neither Catholic nor Orthodox, but a devout Methodist who has constantly put Christ front and center in her life. She was very worried just recently that the new pastor at her parish wouldn't know to come visit her in her nursing home. Of course my grandmother and her sister, pictures of daughterly devotion, assured her that he would be available and knew all about her.

O Holy Mother of God, pray for my great-grandmother as she nears her departure from this life and looks forward to life anew!

Alexis

It is a blessing to have been able to know one's great-grandparents. Mine died when I was very young and although each of them held me, I have no memory of them.

And it is, of course, a very sad thing to lose someone so dear, especially when they are a living link to the past. As someone who has by now seen all of his grandparents pass, I know what a loss it is to lose those links.

I will certainly offer a prayer for your great-grandmother. This is a nice one, Greek, from the 3rd century:

____________________________________________

Jesus Christ
The Gladdening Light
Of the deathless Father's holy glory;
The heavenly, holy, blessed One.
As the sun declines, we see the light of evening,
And sing our hymn to God:
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Worthy are you, O Son of God.
Through each and every moment,
That joyful songs should hymn you.
You are the Giver of Life,
And so the world gives you glory.

______________________________________________

Lord God, you created each and every man and woman from the love of your Fatherly heart, not for a moment on this earth, and certainly not to perish in the world to come, but to share in your life and rejoice in you and with you forever. Look kindly, then, upon your daughter who takes her last look at this place in which we journey, and grant her the blessed happiness of beholding you, together with the angels and all the saints forever and to the ages of ages.

Amen.

Prayers for your great-grandmother that, if it be God's will to call her to Himself at this time, her passing is easy and peaceful.

Prayers for Mom, the great-grandmother of our friend and brother, Garrett, that she be at peace in these final days of her earthly life, that the Lord look down with love and mercy on her and prepare a place in Heaven for his handmaiden.

My heartfelt prayers for your beloved great grandmother, Garret. You are indeed very lucky to have known and grown up with her.

May God bless her beautiful soul and spare her any suffering and pain...may the angels of God take her by her hand to her heavenly home.

With fond regards,
In Christ our Lord,
Alice

Thank you all for your prayers. By way of update, Mom seems to have taken a turn for the better. I still don't think it will be more than a few months, but the immediate apprehension seems to have passed.

Friends,

My great-grandmother passed away Friday night. In the end I believe it was peaceful. We just celebrated her 98th birthday earlier this week, and she was in a terrible condition, frankly, so this is truly a blessing.

She was the kindest lady I ever met and harbored an unwavering faith in Christ that shone through in everything she did in her long and happy life. Please remember the soul of Floyce in your prayers. I pray that she is resting now and reunited with my great-grandfather whom she has been without for over 30 years.

Alexis

May Floyce be at peace in the Place that the Lord had prepared for her.

She is now free from all pain and suffering.

May her family and all who knew her be comforted both now and in the future

May Floyce's memory be eternal and may all of those who loved her, especially our brother and friend, Alexis, be comforted by the prayerful expectation of being reunited with her in heaven.
