Well, I find those icons to be magnificent. The photos of people in attendance struck me as well. All ages; various states of life were represented, enjoying the artwork and the spirituality the icons convey. Just imagine the gloom - to say nothing of the consequences - had such a positive exhibition been attempted during the Soviet era.

Slava ISusu Khrestu
Hello When I read lines like,"Yevgeny Roizman, a collector from Yekaterinburg who submitted around 150 items to the exhibition from his personal collection,[color:#FF0000][/color] I wonder about from whence they came and how is it that they are now in "personal collections"
While in Ukraine in the 70's we came across many old churches and the story was the same when we saw blank ikonostas. The priest all told the same story of how movie makers woud enter a village and simple state that would require the following old icons for a movie and if the priest did not comply they were all taken and never to be returned. This included old large evanhelija, vestments, crosses and fans!!!!!
These stories were corroborated by starshi brate/elders and priests in many of the Western Ukrainian villages and as well as in the city of Ternopil by a priest who was a close family friend . The same was told to us in Belarus where we were also allowed to travel .
When I see such displays as this and realize that so many have no idea of from whence these icons came and more, that the individuals do not even give thought to their true home makes me perturbed so say the least.
It has come to light that many of these reappeared on the Swedish antique market and sold for a good price to American and European sellers.
Lord forgive me my anger for I am truly a sinner Kolya
