Someone called him the toughest hombre in the West. God bless him. He will need that toughness. Axios to Archbishop Salvatore.
God protect you.

Well, for a self-proclaimed transitional Pope, he sure is leaving a wake ...

I've had the privilege of meeting the good Bishop and of hearing him speak at Annunciation at least twice. He is truly a Godly and courageous man. Many prayers.

Axios! May the Lord grant to His servant many blessed years!

My parish has a new bishop! The Archdiocese of San Francisco has been very good to us during our recent major transitions. I'm so glad Archbishop George is finally getting his well earned retirement.

Bishop Salvatore has a pretty solid friendship with a number of Eastern Catholics. He used to go out to Holy Resurrection Monastery when he and they were still in southern California. He's good friends with Fr Tom Loya (Light of the East radio) from their student time together in Rome. Abbot Nicholas and Fr Tom were here for Bishop Cordileone's installation here in Oakland.

Bishop "Sam" wasn't long with Oakland Diocese, my physical home. So we're now looking again for another change there. Prayers.

During his three years as Bishop of Oakland I met him a number of times at various liturgies and social events in the Diocese. He was always very enthusiastic when I said I'm Greek Catholic.

Prayers for him in a big job ahead, and for dear Bishop George for a long and healthy retirement. They're both very orthodox priests, but with quite a different "vibe". I definitely did not see this one coming.

Axios!

This seems to be excellent news.

Since Metropolitan Salvatore (Cordileone) will be the local hierarch of Our Lady of Fatima Byzantine Catholic Church, I wonder how he will be commemorated liturgically. In Greek I believe it would be Metropolitan Sotìr (Σωτήρ), but what about in Russian/Old Church Slavonic?

About 5-6 yrs ago the Archbishop spent all of Holy Week at HRM. He attended all of the services each day. I have to say I was impressed as I have never seen a latin bishop do so many prostrations, as he did. He stayed for the Easter Liturgy and joined in the feast afterwards in the early hours of the morning.

cool

Since his name is Salavatore, not Sotirios or anything else, why not commemorate him as Salvatore? It makes me think of Greeks here. A visiting Bishop wanted to know what St Dyfrig's Greek name was, as if that was needed to make him valid and real. cry

I'll join in prayer that this is a minor issue and won't cause him too much heartache in his episcopal duties. The Diary of a Country Priest has helped me for years in being more understanding of issues like he faces. But I suspect that is an additional hurdle no one needed as he enters his duties in SF.

Any more recent word on Bishop Sal?

He has apologized and his court date is set for early October. Nothing else.
