Prayers for our dear brother Jack Liu, received into the Dominican Order of Preachers novitiate. Vestition (a private ceremony) for the six postulates was Thursday, August 30 at St. Dominic Priory, SF. A very big step for them.

He carries a great love of the Eastern Catholic Churches, and of Holy Orthodoxy with him as he enters this new life with the OPs.

Two of our OLF parishioners attend daily Mass at St. Dominic's Catholic Church so will be blest to at least see Jack often. I'm enjoying my many happy memories of all our times together in liturgies and elsewhere. smile

I got an email tonight from Jack. smile
"I'm glad that many novices in my class have a love of Orthodoxy. The novice master Fr. Anthony told us that he will take us to Holy Virgin for the vigil of Exultation of Holy Cross."
I said to remind Fr Anthony that Holy Virgin Cathedral is on the Julian Calendar. smile It's wonderful their novice master is being supportive in this way.

The Dominicans see to have a small core of Eastern Catholics. Our priest Fr. Ramon Gonzalez is a Dominican and I recently read that a Dominican priest was named pastor of a Melkite parish in California.

Prayers for Jack, that his novitiate be blessed and that God grant him many years in His service.

Thank you for your prayers. Photo of Jack, middle chair on the left, and the 5 other student friars in the midst of their pre-novitiate retreat this week.

Their Vestition this coming Thursday, I was thinking it had already happened, although I posted the right date. Slide show here from Vestition 2011. Hopefully they will post a slideshow of the 2012 Vestition.

I do miss my boy, although he's been sending short emails. smile

You're probably thinking here of Fr. Brendan McAnerney, OP at St. George Melkite Church in Sacramento. He has assisted there for a number of years, and was assigned as Pastor in 2011, when the previous pastor was assigned to a parish back east. I think Fr Brendan had envisioned retiring, not becoming a parish pastor. smile

Fr. Brendan is an iconographer which is how I initially got to know him in the lecture and painting/writing holy icons classes he teaches in summer session at DSPT.
