His Beatitude, Patriarch Bedros XIX has entered eternal rest. May his memory be eternal! Prayers for our Armenian Catholic brethren.

Pope Sends Condolences on Death of Armenian Catholic Patriarch

Quote
In a telegram addressed to the Patriarchal Synod of the Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians in Beirut (Lebanon), Pope Francis expressed his condolences for the death of their Patriarch, His Beatitude Nerses Bedros XIX.

Patriarch Bedros XIX passed away today at the age of 75 from a sudden heart attack. Born in Egypt, the Catholic Patriarch was elected to lead the Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians in 1999.

In his telegram, the Holy Father recalled his recent close collaboration with the Egyptian prelate, particularly in the recent declaration of St. Gregory of Narek as a Doctor of the Church.

He remembered him as a “devoted pastor who, as a priest dedicated himself tirelessly to the service of the communities for whom he was responsible.” He also recalled his zealous ministry as a bishop, first in Alexandria and then as Patriarch of Cilicia of the Armenians.

“I join in prayer with all those who are affected by his sudden passing and convey my apostolic blessing, in particular to the bishops of the Patriarchate of Cilicia of the Armenians, the family of the deceased and all those who are to attend his funeral,” Pope Francis concluded.

I'm shocked! It was just two months ago that he was in several liturgies and ceremonies in commemoration of the Armenian Genocide centennial.

May the holy Armenian Catholic martyrs, Blessed Gomidas Keumurgian and Blessed Ignatius Maloyan, intercede for him and escort his soul to heaven.

May his memory be eternal.

O God of all spiritual and corporeal beings, You Who trampled death, broke the power of Satan and granted life to the whole world, now, O Lord, grant rest to the soul of Your departed servant, the High Priest Nerses Bedros, in a place of light, freshness, and peace, where there is no pain, sorrow, or mourning.

As You are a gracious God and the Lover of mankind, remember his years of service to You and forgive him every transgression committed by him in word, deed, or thought, since there is no man alive who has not sinned, for You alone are without sin and You are the Resurrection and the Life, O Christ our God, and we render glory to You, together with Your Eternal Father, and Your most Holy, gracious, and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and forever. Amen.

May his memory be eternal! And may our brothers and sisters of the Armenian Church be comforted in the loss of their spiritual father and leader!

In paradisum deducant te angeli; in tuo adventu suscipiant te martyres, et perducant te in civitatem sanctam Ierusalem. Chorus angelorum te suscipiat, et cum Lazaro quondam paupere æternam habeas requiem.

Into paradise may the angels lead thee; and at thy coming may the martyrs receive thee, and bring thee into the holy city Jerusalem. May the choirs of angels receive thee, and mayest thou, with Lazarus once poor, have everlasting rest.
