Christ is in our midst!!

Has anyone heard anything about the Great and Holy Council? Its workings? Its outcomes?

I have not read the documents yet. I have seen Roman Catholic treatments of the Council on the web, but I would stay away from those before reading the documents themselves due to the usual cognitive dissonance from Western interpreters.

I largely agree, but in order to be fair I feel I must add that a Catholic magazine or newspaper will almost certainly have better stuff to say than e.g. a Catholic blog or whatever.

The churches that decided not to come are treating the council as a preliminary meeting leading to a real pan-Orthodox council.

In addition to the documents, the council released an encyclical signed by all attending bishops which, among other things, named the Photian, Palamite, and other synods (e.g. Jassy) as possessing "universal authority." They did not name them "ecumenical councils" but the basic import seems the same.

Apart from that, I don't think much happened of substance.

Everyone may find a nicely balanced, honest and trustworthy report in this interview (which I helped arrange) between "Our Sunday Visitor" and Metropolitan Kallistos of Diokleia. Here is the online version:

https://www.osv.com/OSVNewsweekly/A...listos-reflects-on-Orthodox-council.aspx

I understand it will appear in print for the July 17 issue of OSV Newsweekly, which should get pretty widespread distribution in Roman Catholic circles.

That is an excellent summary of the position of the Patriachate of Antioch.

What is the position of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and those Churches that did participate with respect to the four Churches that did not?

Are there interviews with EP representatives that could articulate that position?

What about the process by which new autocephalous Orthodox Churches could be established?

Those who will respond need not quote from Roman Catholic sources - Latin bias will not be tolerated here! blush

Wouldn't think of it. You know how I feel about those rosary swinging, novena praying Latins. LOL.

Hope you are well.
