At the Byzantine Mission I attend, the Priest uses a Folder that has the Divine Liturgy in it.
Where may I find a hard back altar version of the Divine Liturgies that is approved in the Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh, PA. for this Mission?

Did you try Byzantine Seminary Press, the Archeparchy's own seminary and bookstore?

Hardbacks might be problematic at this point.

As far as I know, the Levkulic pew book is out of print. There's not a lot of publishing going on right now because of the fairly imminent possibility of the "new" (not really) Liturgy. If and when the hierarchs approve it, new books will be widely available.

'Til then, the best option may be to take the text your priest is using, or download something from the 'net (plenty of Divine Liturgy sources out there in Word and other formats), take it to Kinko's and have 'em spiral bind it.

I believe John Vernoski also has a pew book with music available for a modest price - but I don't think it's a hardback.

Seriously, I would *not* go spending a bunch of money right now, because if the hierarchs approve the work of the Intereparchial Liturgical and Music Commissions, that will supersede everything else, and it will be the definitive, official text for use in the Metropolia.

Edited: Whoops! You said "Altar" version. My understanding is that there will be a new version for the priest too.

Thank you for your advice. Out of curiosity, what is the Approved liturgical text in the Archeparchy right now. Surely the Priest can't use just any translation. Just wondering because my Priest says and does somethings that don't coincide with the books provided for the faithful or the Byzantine Book of Prayer that I have. I, as a Latin Rite Catholic who is a strong fighter against all(even the smallest)liturgical abuses, have an automatic flag pop up in my head that says STOP this is wrong and this must be fixed. I do have a copy of the Canon Law of the Eastern Churches and it does state almost the same as the Canon Law for the Latin Churches that no Priest may add, subtract, or change anything in the approved liturgical books. Thank you for your help.

The only approved text for the Archeparchy of Pittsburgh is the large black and small red Liturgikons, however it looks like only the small red is still available from Byzantine Seminary Press. It is $12.95. Texts for the people are available for $1.50.

That said there are many authorized abbreviations, the Antiphons are shortened, the Little Litanies are not taken, the First Litany of Supplication is not taken, etc. This is how most parishes and the Metorpolitan celebrate the Liturgy. Basically in the Byzantine Book of Prayer if it is in small type it is allowed to be omitted. Also the Metropolitan himself uses a spiral bound copy so that should not be cause for concern. I would not just download a text from the interent.

Certain changes have been mandated by episcopal authority, especially in light of the Liturgical Instruction from Rome involving removing latinizations which crept into our liturgy - for example, the Filioque ("proceeds... from the Son") in the Creed, and changes to certain texts in the Eparchy of Passaic that Bishop Andrew ordered.

There are also places in the Liturgy where it is customary to insert special intentions, and these wil l generally not be in the pew books.

I don't know the Metropolitan of Pittsburgh personally, nor have I seen the spiral-bound book he is said to use. However, since no one has yet published a complete or "official" English translation of the Ruthenian Archieraticon, either the Metropolitan has himself made up a text for use "donec aliter provideatur" or someone has done it for him. The Pontifical Liturgy requires the appropriate texts.

Well, actually it is three ring binder. The translation I would imagine was done by the Inter-eparchial Liturgical Commission or Archpriest David Petras.
