Does anyone know where I can locate the specific bible verses used for the readings of the day? (For the Byzantine calendar - any jurisdiction will do)...I left my calendar at home.

Thanks!

Gordo,

Try the following link. They will email you the readings according to the Byzantine Catholic Church on a daily basis. I hope this helps.

Byzantines.net

The other link that can do the same according to the Orthodox calendar is as follows:

Dynamis

Another couple choices--

To read them each day (has both calendars):

and to hear them read:

Gordo,

You can download the Melkite Cyber-Typicon from Father Peter Boutros' site and the Melkite Synaxarion is available at Father Ron Golini's site.

Btw, Dave Brown (who posts here as DTBrown) has done a wonderful compilation at his Byzantine Catholic Daily Prayer and Lectionary , if no one has mentioned it as yet.

Many years,

Neil

Fr. Anthony could you hook this to the top of the page so it is a reference for everyone. Then we could add different links to it that fit this category as they are found.

I will add one more link. I actually use it on a daily basis. It is called the Orthodox Word Podcast and I download it daily on my computer and can play it either from my computer or on my MP3 player. All the free subscription information information is located on the page linked below.

Orthodox Word Podcast

I have used it for almost a year now, and have had the podcasts downloaded on my laptop when I have been travelling. It keeps a consistent form of readings for me along with the synaxarion readings.

Gordo,

the Melkites will have one on line. We're working on implementing it on http://www.melkites.org/ , although it's not quite there yet.

If you PM me with your e-mail address, I can send you a a PDF or Excel file (tell me which you'd prefer) of the readings for each day this year and next year (perpetual, calculating one coming shortly to the web site). (It copes with saints memorials occuring on Sundays and movable feasts and shows the correct Epistle and Gospel for the day.)

All according to the latest Melkite liturgical publications from the patriarchate (most recent publication is the Book of Divine and Holy Liturgies (in Arabic) 2006.

Though not what the original poster was seeking, our diocese has the Epistle and Gospel on its website each day. http://www.acrod.org/cgi-bin/dailyreading.cgi It is the first webpage that I look at each day.

FYI: At goarch bottom of the page: "Subscribe to the Daily Readings List to receive daily emails containing Scripture readings and Lives of the Saints."

I like it because the email contains the text of the readings and Synaxarion. The email goes to my cell phone so I can have the readings with me in that highly portable format.

Christos Anesti!!!
And good morning!! I am confirmed Roman Catholic, but am transitioning over to Byzantine Catholic. I'm noticing that the daily readings here don't always line up with the daily readings on the actual "paper calendar" that I received from my parish. Which should I be paying more attention to??

Tnanks!!

On the Forum I use excerpts from the daily readings. Usually they are from the movable cycle (today was the Sunday of the Samaritan Woman). Occasionally they are from those assigned to the day of the year (the fixed cycle). Sometimes the fixed feast day (the readings for the calendar date) trumps the ones from the movable cycle. Other times the readings assigned by the movable cycle trumps the one assigned to the day. Sometimes I make minor typos. Sometimes I make major mistakes. And occasionally I forget to update them for that particular day! [A very short explanation but I hope it is understandable.]

The readings on the lectionary page on the website have the movable cycle of readings listed first, and then a listing of the assigned readings for the major feast days. There are occasions where the listed reading will vary by a verse (for example, starting with verse 7 of a chapter rather then verse 8). I don't remember the source of that listing (the lectionary has been on the website in one form or another for probably over 10 years). There may be other differences. I have not seen the wall calendar for several years and have never compared the two. What your local Church provides you with is official. Anything provided anywhere on this website is unofficial.

The best online Menalogion I have found is here:

http://atlantaorthodoxchurches.org/stjohn/menologion_2.htm

and best of all, it's free! It accommodates both Julian and Revised Calendar, and includes many lesser known Saints. I use mine daily.

[b]Thank you so much for clearing this up. The more I read and learn, especially where the moveables and immoveables are concerned, I get it and was suspecting that is what the issue was. Thanks again. I appreciate it!! I love this website!!

Quick question. How does one keep up with which "Tone" a particular week is if you don't have a parish calendar??

A lot of prayer books provide a count of the Sundays after Pentecost with the repeating 8 tones.
