Does anyone know if there is an Eastern Rite Church in the USA that uses the old Vespers- Matins-Liturgy arangement. What people do not realize is that the Liturgy makes perfect
sense when it is celebrated in that arrangement. So many Eastern Rite Churches have gone to Saturday Nite Anticipated Liturgy,so that vespers and matins have been neglected. Beleve it or not I just came from a Church that managed to do a Liturgy in under an hour. People are hungry to praise God, in some Evangelical Churches the service is at least two hours long!!

Theodore: The only time in recent memory I have seen the combination of Vespers/Matins is at Easter and then, its a very wattered down verision. I have no idea if anyone does this anymore but for my area, you are lucky if you see vespers outside of Good Friday. Good luck!

There are a number of parishes that are restoring Vespers. Only a few that I know of celebrate Matins every Sunday. The Great Vigil (Vespers/Matins/First Hour) was never all that common in the Byzantine Catholic Churches since they used to have the Vespers in the evening and the Matins in the morning before the Divine Liturgy. Also appearing are Vespers and Divine Liturgy combinations for feast days and Saturday Evenings.

In the Melkite parish where I attend, Vespers is celebrated every Saturday evening, and Orthros/Matins is celebrated every Sunday morning before Divine Liturgy, beginning a little over an hour before the time that Divine Liturgy is "scheduled" to begin.

Theodore
At St Nicholas in Anchorage we have 1/2 hour Vespers Saturday night before liturgy, and 1/2 hour Matins Sunday before liturgy.
