Dear Abbot Michael,

Yes, the larger scapular is a constant reminder that we belong to the Mother of God of Mt Carmel, that we live under her Mantle of Protection!

Dear Friends in Mt Carmel,

There was a Carmelite Father who wrote brilliantly about the prayer of the heart, Fr. Venard Poslusney, I believe.

Is his writing still available?

My Dear Friend and Brother Alex,
Sorry for the delay; a little under the weather.

I've done all the searches I could think of for Fr. Venard Poslusney and, so far, have only found the name mentioned in articles and other references but no publications.

Pray without ceasing....Michael

Dear Abbot Michael,

No problem!

Do you think we should start a new thread ICCBF thread?

Dear Alex,
I don't know.... There hasn't been a lot of interest generated so far. What does the Administrator think about it?

13 pages is quite a long thread. You might consider standardizing the title and than adding to it so people can find it easily.

Example: "ByzCarm: How Carmelites Pray"

Dear Abbot Michael,

I think the Administrator might even consider joining the ICCBF as a silent member . . . his avatar looks like an ancient Carmelite . . . wink

I think the Adm . . . I mean the Protoarchimandrite has some sound advice!

But, if the idea was to allow Orthodox, RCs and Byzantine as well as other Easterns wouldn't "ByzCarm: How Carmelites Pray" deny the "generic" term ICCBF?
Just asking....I will do whatever you think best. Still no luck with the Avatar.

I was merely offering a suggestion. It was not a directive. Something like "ByzCarm" or "EastCarm" would stand out and be easy to identify as threads move down the forum listings.

FYI: The day before a Carmelite saint's feast day is usually a day of fast and abstinance in the Carmelite Order in the RC. This is not the RC and so what you do on the eve of a feast day is not obligatory. Something attention, though, should be taken.

March 19 St Joseph Spouse of the Theotokos
May 16 St. Simon Stock
May 25 Mary Magdalene de Pazzi
June 14 St Elisha
July 16 Solemnity Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
July 20 St. Elija
August 26 St. Teresa of Avila
Oct 15 St Teresa of the Child Jesus
Nov 14 All Carmelite Saints
Dec 14 St. John of the Cross
The feast of St. Teresa is on Oct. 15 while of St. Therese is on Oct. 1 biggrin

Dear Alexeie,
You are of course totally correct and thank you for posting the correct dates. Just exactly where my mind was when I was typing that list I cannot say, but my proof reading is so poor these last few years I don't even get embarassed any more. shocked

I tried to tell you about the Darien crowd. Even Gudrun at the Carmelite Spiritual Center in Ontario refuses to deal with them and she is a sweetheart. I might give them credit on the burial Habit. Burial Habits have just been approved again and a soul must be Professed to qualify. I have been with them over thirty years and they refused to send me Formation literature. And I am a past Master of Formation. mad

Unfortunately, to Darien, unless you are willing to pay the yearly dues you aren't considered in "good standing"; I even had to send a copy of my Profession Certificate.

Do you wonder why I think some souls in authority have other motives than spreading devotion to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel?

Going to my daughter's; back later.

Pray without ceasing....Michael (Thanking God and the Glorious Theotokos for the ICCBF)

I would sugget the Carmelite supply store at the Spiritual Center on Stanley Ave. In the last resort, make your own. They are cheaper and they last longer,
Dear Carmelitanum,
The Lay Carmelites here in the Philippines even from the start of their existence are buried in the burial habit. We don't give the ceremonial brown scapular unless one is a member of the Third Order (but hey I sent one to Alex biggrin ) because it is sign of membership to the Order. As for the members of the Confraternity, we made a 2 x 3 size scapular courtesy of the Carmelite nuns.

As regarding to Darien, I believe they might be acting in good faith since part of our Carmelite duty (because we are 100% Carmelite) is to support the Order not only morally but financially in order to continue its ministries.
