Hot off the press from Florida. Very sad and very upsetting... and did the parishoniers really have to save the icons and tabernacle? The eparchy made no provisions for these sacred items?

This is so saddening. COuld not provisions have been made for the church BEFORE they were told they were out? I mean honestly, have the powers that be in that church no descency? Surely they could have made a better arrangement than to push the parishoners out like this. A Bishop should know that money is not everything! For shame mad mad

WHICH sacred items? Icons, tabernacle, people?

IMHO the mentality is the same as those on the Titanic who wouldn't allow the 'steerage' to take up space on the lifeboats.

Prayers for our brothers and sisters of Holy Apostles Mission and may God grant many years to Father Pothier for his caring and assistance to them.

I have not received a second confirmation on the amount received for the property, but the figure of $7 million has been mentioned. Considering the area, the amount is not that out of line for 40+ acres... works out to $175,000 an acre (40 acres).

So out of 40 acres, not one could be spared for a church?
With the large profit, could not some of the $$$ be used to make the church 'fit into the new neighborhood' thereby possibly being a source of evangelization?
Where should profit like this be realized? Are the talents being buried in the ground? What is the Gospel message on stewardship?

If evangelization is not in the master plan for the coming years, what is?

Sheep without a shepherd or sheep that chased the shepherd away?
From the beginning of the parish, Fr. +Basil Kraynyak was besieged from overzealous, and downright maniacal members. Then the poor priest who followed him was unable to make a difference, besieged himself with his own personal problems. Why would the Bishop send a priest into a hornets nest? Parishioners who allow a minority of members to berate their priests, and seek a power grab deserve what they get; like they didn’t know what fate their parish was about to suffer! Please.

Third pew,

We knew not about what the actual situation was with the parishoners...we only knew what we have read from the church bulliton, and newspapers. If there was a bad situation there then the fact still stands that arrangements could and should have been made to ensure the parish would survivea nd thrive, perhapse a move to another part of town, but to close a parish because of some parishoners as you have stated is NOT correct and is NOT right.

Do you have personal experience there? If so I am sure we would be more than happy to hear. If it was as bad as you make it sound then I can see why it would not grow, but to close it, is that really an answer?

It is my hope that the congregation can stick together and grow. With prayer and faith, all things are possible.

I think it is wonderful that these older people who lost their community (IMHO because of a better offer ($$$)to the Eparchy than their envelopes) can still worship together! smile

My question- are they 'permitted' to still worship together? Ridiculous question, I know. But now that the article is on the internet, available to readers in say - New Jersey- will this RC priest be in hot water?

I hope not! frown

I live one town over from Lake Worth - the grounds of this church are in dire need of upkeep...yup, the land is worth millions - i think they should get more than 7 million - in wellington, a developer is trying to pay 550K per acre!

I don't understand why the eparchy can't buy them a less expensive piece of property and get them started on a new building. For that matter, I don't understand (maybe I do but perhaps I shouldn't say) why they don't send a vital BC priest down there to run it.
