Welcome to The Byzantine Forum!

Below are the rules and regulations you must agree to before you can register. Please read them carefully, and then (only if you agree) check the box at the bottom of the page and click "Proceed".

The Byzantine Forum welcomes all newcomers to our on-line community. This forum is mainly a community of Byzantine Catholics and other Eastern Christians who share a common historical and theological heritage. In his Apostolic Letter, Orientale Lumen, Saint John Paul the Great stated that "one important way to grow in mutual understanding and unity consists precisely in improving our knowledge of one another" (#24). That is the purpose of this forum: to improve our knowledge of one another. As such, all forms of theological opinions (and especially Eastern Christian ones) are welcome to be placed upon the table for discussion.

Roman Catholic and other Western Christians are also welcome to join and participate. Please understand that the Roman Catholic Church is huge when compared to English-speaking Eastern Christians, so, please forgive us if we sometimes get annoyed when Roman Catholics who might not know anything about us and come here to present Latin theology as if it were the only Catholic expression of theology. If you have come to overload us with apologetic quotes to test how "Catholic" we really are, please don't bother to register - that is simply not how we live out our lives of faith. Consider The The Byzantine Forum to be nothing more than a cyber coffee hour.

To truly understand who Eastern Christians are you must "come and see" for yourself by joining us in worship. The warmth and fellowship of our faith experienced in person cannot be described in any book. We extend a warm invitation to everyone to visit one of our parishes and join us in prayer.

Once your registration is complete you will receive a verification e-mail. Sometimes aggressive spam filters will send this verification e-mail to your spam mailbox. To make sure that the e-mail goes into your regular mailbox please add forum@byzcath.org to your e-mail address book before continuing. Then, when you get the verification e-mail, you will be able to read it and follow the instructions it contains. If it does not arrive within a few minutes of your registration make sure to look in your spam mailbox. When you complete the verification process your application then goes into a queue for approval. It may take administrators 24-48 hours to approve your application, so please be patient. IF YOU DO NOT VALIDATE YOUR ACCOUNT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF REGISTERING THE ACCOUNT WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DELETED.

Once your application is approved your account will be in full moderation for about 30 days (longer if you don't post) and you will not be able to send Private Messages. We do this for two main reasons: 1) To make sure new posters are serious posters and 2) to reduce SPAM posters (this process helps us filter out those nice men from Nigeria who want to send us millions of dollars if only we would send them our bank account numbers). We request that in your first month you limit your posts to 5 per day so as not to overwhelm our moderators.

You must check the box below if you agree to these terms and then click "Proceed".
