I enjoyed reading this. Thank you Neil for bringing it to our attention, and thank you Father Serge for writing it!

Come and be welcome!

Meanwhile, could you by chance record Father Groeschel's program with Msgr. Hrynuck for me? I'll be in Athens and won't be able to watch it.

Father, bless!

A quick question:

You say in your description that you all went right to "All ye who have been baptized" immediately after Pascha Matins and skipped the Enarxis part of liturgy. Is this a standard practice for churches that celebrate the two services together?

Christ is Risen!

The blessing of the Lord!

Going straight from a previous service to the Divine Liturgy without using the Enarxis is a practice based on the Vesper-Liturgy of Saint Basil use about 4 times a year. I've known it also to be done at the solemn Consecration of a new church, for example.

In the context of Pascha, the motivation is to encourage the faithful to stay for the Divine Liturgy and receive Holy Communion. In my first parish, I discovered that there was a horrid custom of a lengthy pause between Orthros and the Divine Liturgy, during which time the Priest would hear Confessions and the Choir would have breakfast! I put my foot down hard on that aberration, with the support of the Bishop.
