Would it be considered inappropriate for a Latin Catholic to wear a triple-bar cross?

I see no reason why it should be, provided the Cross is worn out of religious devotion.

I am fearful of committing an ecumenical faux pas. Being a Latin-rite Catholic of mainly Italian and German descent, such symbolism is not of my cultural patrimony.

No, of course not. But be prepared for a lot of questions. If you have no Byzantine or Slavic connections at all, it's just hard to explain. But misunderstanding is not the worst thing in the world. Example:

"I thought you were a priest."

"I am."

"But you have a wife and children."

"I do."

"But priests can't get married."

You get the idea. To be forewarned is to be forearmed.

But I have two forearms... smile

One Greek Orthodox Priest told me that at the airport he was stopped and asked if he were a rabbi. He was wearing his black clerical suit.

He responded, "No. I am a Greek Orthodox Priest."

And the response came, "Oh, then you are a Greek Orthodox Jew."

No, the priest responded, "I am a Greek Orthodox Christian.

How ignorant actually, because Orthodox Jews don't wear black clerical suits. They wear black pants, granted, but not a black shirt/jacket with Roman collar...

Слава Ісусу Христу!

As my Baba (Granny) use to say (but about the Latin cross)… “The cross of Christ is a cross of Christ no matter if it has one, two, three or a dozen crossbars”. What is the worst that could happen, you were in an accident and an Orthodox priest is called to anoint you?

I suppose it depends on which airport. The "clergy suit" is not familiar to most people in Greece. I've never worn such a suit in Greece, and have no difficulty at all being recognized as a priest.

Dear Friend,

I have a Cross (Crucifix Icon) on my wall that was made in Russia and sold to my wife by an Orthodox book dealer. I was baptized on 31 January 1976 (my birthdate out of fear that I wouldn't last too much longer!) and am a life long Latin Catholic. (I have more than a slight leaning to the East though!) wink

Please, if you like the Cross and it fits your personal Catholic Spirituality, wear it. You will get questions, be prepared for them, and you can use it as an evangelization tool. cool

God Bless You,

Eric

Praise to Jesus Christ+

Sure wear it. Why not? If it fits your personal spirituality go for it. I'm the same way with Icons and I'm a Latin Catholic. Be prepared for questions though, for instance I go to a school with a lot a protestant kids and they ask me why I make the sign of the cross Before and after I pray. As Dr.Eric said use it as an evangelization tool.

God Bless,
David
