P.S...
Quote:
Following her death in 1952, her gravesite became a pilgrimage site. She was recently canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church. Her remains are now in the Church of the Protecting Veil of Our Lady at Intercession Convent in Moscow.[2] The lines of people waiting to visit her gravesite is reported as regularly being quite long (often needing three or four hours to make a short visit to the gravesite) and well-behaved, which some have stated is rather unusual in Moscow.

Many thanks for the link Alice. I must admit that I had never read St Matrona'a inspiring life, though I have seen her icon on several occassions - and, on those occassons, wondered about her portrayal 'in blindness' when an icon shows a saint in heavenly life, healed, transfigured and restored. I also wondered about this when I saw the icon of the New Martyr Archimandrite Philoumenos (+1979) of Jacob's Well, replete with spectacles -

The life made me think of the vita of Blessed Mother Macaria of Temkino, though it turned out that the author of 'Beloved Sufferer' made parts of it up, hence St Herman of Alaska Press not republishing. (Perhaps I read that here on the forum)

Pray to God for us, O Holy God-Pleaser Matrona, for we eagerly betake ourselves to thee, who art a speeder helper and intercessor for our souls.

You are very welcome, Father Mark.
Here is a link to many more details on her life, translated from the Russian:

http://www.roadtoemmaus.net/back_issue_articles/RTE_28/Blessed_Matrona_of_Moscow.pdf

You will also see here actual photos of Mother Matrona, and also photos of the long, long lines which line up to venerate her icon and relics daily. Many are the miracles which she performed and continues to perform through her intercessions to our Lord.
Infact, even the convent itself attests to its existence (rebuilding) through her miraculous intercessions.

She is so loved by the Russian people, that this beautiful website ( http://kmatrone.com/ )has been created for prayer requests (and the actual process of the webmaster collecting them, folding them, putting them in his sack, his journey to the monastery, and his leaving the sack by her icon is documented!)...What an AMAZING act of love for his fellow human beings and for Matronushka!
