Young Ukrainians are in Australia for the 23rd World Youth Day
Friday, 18 July 2008 14:55
With the blessing of the Most Rev. Peter (Stasiuk), Eparch of Ukrainian Catholics in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, a week before the opening of World Youth Day a varied spiritual program is prepared for Ukrainian pilgrims. It includes the celebration of Divine Liturgies and Akathists [prayer services] to blesseds of the Ukrainian Church, catechism, round tables, meetings with Ukrainian bishops and acquaintance with the life of the Ukrainian community in Australia. In addition, a cultural program and participation in a youth festival are planned for young Ukrainians.
Father Edward Ivanko from Canada will present two spiritual musical performances, one of which is dedicated to the anniversary of the Holodomor [forced famine of 1932-3]. From Thursday the Ukrainian youth will take part in World Youth Day.
More than 225,000 young people are expected from 170 countries of the world.

The Spirit of Truth
O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, You are everywhere present and fill all things. Treasury of Blesings and Giver of Life, come and dwell within us, cleanse us of all stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers
| Repentance is the renewal of baptism. Repentance is a contract with God for a second life. A penitent is a buyer of humility. Repentance is constant distrust of bodily comfort. Repentance is self-condemning reflection, and carefree self-care. Repentance is the daughter of hope and the renunciation of despair. A penitent is an undisgraced convict. Repentance is reconciliation with the Lord by the practice of good deeds contrary to the sins. Repentance is purification of conscience. Repentance is the voluntary endurance of all afflictions. A penitent is the inflicter of his own punishments. Repentance is a mighty persecution of the stomach, and a striking of the soul into vigorous awareness. St. John of the Ladder |
