Nashville’s Coptic Catholics celebrate visit by patriarch

Andy Telli, Tennessee Register

The small community of Coptic Catholics in Nashville, consisting of about 40 families who have moved here from their native Egypt, threw open their arms wide to welcome Cardinal Antonios Naguib, the Patriarch of the worldwide Coptic Catholic Church.

“It is a great hope, a great pleasure to have him (the patriarch) here,” said Moussa Tawadrous, one of the leaders of the local community. The patriarch will “help build our Coptic Catholic Church in Nashville.”

Cardinal Naguib visited Nashville the weekend of July 24 as part of a tour of Coptic Catholic communities across the United States. The purpose of the visit is to demonstrate his spiritual proximity to the local people and “to hear about their situation, their needs and problems,” he said, “to show them we are always supporting them, doing what we can to remain in link with them.”

The Spirit of Truth

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, You are everywhere present and fill all things. Treasury of Blesings and Giver of Life, come and dwell within us, cleanse us of all stain, and save our souls, O Good One.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

The man who follows Christ in solitary mourning is greater than he who praises Christ amid the congregation of men.
