Russian Orthodox Training Young 'Street Ministers' to Counter Secularism

CWNews.com - The Russian Orthodox Church is training 100 young people for “street missionary activity.” The initiative, championed by Patriarch Kirill, is described as an effort to counteract the influence of secular materialism, Western ideology, and “drugs, egotism, and moral relativism” among Russian youth. Skeptical observers see it as part of an overall campaign to boost Patriarch Kirill’s influence in Russian society.

No Hiding Allowed

When You will come to earth in glory, O God, * all things will tremble and the river of fire shall flow before Your judgment seat; * and the books will be opened and all hidden things revealed. * Deliver me, from the unquenchable fire * and make me worthy to stand at your right hand, O righteous Judge.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers

Christ is Risen!
O the marvel! the forbearance! the immeasurable meekness!
The Untouched is felt; the Master is held by a servant,
And He reveals His wounds to one of His inner circle.
Seeing these wounds, the whole Creation was shaken at the time.
Thomas, when he was considered worthy of such gifts,
Lifted up a prayer to the One Who deemed him worthy,
Saying, "Bear my rashness with patience,
Have pity on my unworthiness and lighten the burden
Of my lack of faith, so that I may sing and cry,
`Thou art our Lord and God.'"
