Married priests won't resolve vocations crisis: Ukrainian cardinal
Friday, 04 January 2008 09:00
Rome, Jan. 4, 2008 (CWNews.com) - The Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Church has authored an article for L'Osservatore Romano arguing that an end to clerical celibacy would not resolve the vocations crisis.
Cardinal Lubomyr Husar of Kiev noted that the Byzantine Church he leads-- the largest of the Eastern churches in communion with Rome-- allows for the ordination of married men. The marital status of priests does not determine the quality of their service to the Church, the Ukrainian cardinal argued. At the same time, he observed, the absence of the celibacy disciplinary practiced by the Roman rite has not eliminated the constant challenge of finding candidates for the priesthood.

Nothing is Hidden
When You shall come to earth in glory, O God, all things will tremble before You and the river of fire will flow before Your judgment seat. The books will be opened and all hidden things revealed. Deliver me from the unquenchable fire and make me worthy to stand at Your right hand, O righteous Judge.

Wisdom from the Church Fathers
| Let us consider, then, brethren, of what matter we were formed, who we are, and with what nature we came into the world, and how He Who formed and created us brought us into His world from the darkness of a grave, and prepared his benefits for us before we were born. Since, therefore, we have everything from Him, we ought in everything to give Him thanks, to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. St. Clement of Rome |
