This will be a weekend of prayer and praise, with presentations on Carmelite
themes and Eastern prayer traditions, including the Jesus Prayer. The
weekend will be built around the worship of the Byzantine Church, including
Vespers, the Akathist Hymn to the Mother of God, the Saturday night Vigil
service (full Vespers and Matins), and the Sunday Divine Liturgy. There will
also be time for personal reflection, free time, and confessions.
Presenters will be Fr. Elias O'Brien, O.Carm., Fr. Bruce Baker, O.Carm., and
guest speakers. Assisting in the liturgical celebrations will be Protodeacon
David Kennedy.
The retreat runs from Friday July 6 (Check-in after 3:30, dinner at 6:00)
through Sunday after lunch.
Cost (includes meals, accommodations and worship aid booklet) is $150 US
($210 Cdn) Commuter cost is $90 US ($125 Cdn) and includes lunch. Cost goes
up by $15 US ($21 Cdn) after June 25.
IF YOU LIVE WITHIN CONVENIENT DRIVING DISTANCE OF PITTSBURGH, NOTE: A bus
will be going to the retreat from Aliquippa (St. George parish). Bus leaves
Friday at 9:00am, with a lunch stop in Erie. It returns Sunday evening,
probably between 8 and 9 o'clock. The bus is modern, comfy, and equipped
with AC and a restroom. There is safe, off-street parking in Aliquippa. With
gas prices skyrocketing, the bus is a BARGAIN at $30.
