Pittsburgh, PA -- This year's Byzantine Spirituality Conference will focus
on the theme of "Mission and Evangelization in the Eastern
Church". Sponsored by the Office of Religious Education of the
Byzantine Catholic Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and in cooperation with the
Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of the USA, the annual spirituality
conference will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the Raddison Hotel,
GreenTree, Pittsburgh, PA
FEATURED SPEAKERS:
Archpriest Paul Lazor
A priest of the Orthodox Church in America, Fr. Paul Lazor was ordained
in 1964. Since 1977 Fr. Lazor has been a full time member of administration
and faculty of St. Vladimir's Seminary in Crestwood, NY, where he also
serves as Dean of Students.
A native of Canonsburg, PA, Fr. Lazor has a B.S. from the
University of Pittsburgh and a M.Div. from St. Vladimir's Seminary.
Fr. Lazor is a frequent speaker at retreats and
conferences and is the author of numerous articles, booklets, and tracts on
liturgical and other themes, as well as translating and editing.
Bishop Nicholas Samra
Bishop Nicholas is the Auxiliary Bishop for the Melkite Greek Catholic
Eparchy of Newton. He has over 20 years pastoral experience in the areas of
Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
In addition, Bishop Nicholas has served the Melkite Diocese through his
involvement with the Diocesan Pastoral Council, the Eparchial College of
Consultors, the Liturgical Commission, the Continuing Formation of Clergy,
chairman of the Clergy Conference and director of the Diocesan Archives.
Bishop Nicholas is the past president of the Eastern Catholic Associates
of the United States Council of Catholic Bishops.
Very Rev. Fr. Jonathan Tobias
Formerly an Evangelical Protestant clergyman, Fr. Tobias was received
into the Orthodox Church in 1992 and was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by
His Eminence, Metropolitan Nicholas, in 1998.
Fr. Tobias is pastor of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Scranton, PA. He
is Assistant Editor of The Church Messenger, and instructor of Pastoral
Counseling at Christ the Savior Seminary in Johnstown, PA.
Dr. John Petrus and Dr. Sharon (DiLauro) Petrus
Dr. Sharon L. DiLauro has post-graduate training in Obstetrics and
Gynecology and had fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology,
Infertility, and Genetics. She has done Couples and Family Therapy at
Gestalt Institute of Cleveland. Married to Dr. John Petrus, she is retired
and raising their four children.
Dr. John J. Petrus is trained in Internal Medicine, Hematology and
Medical Oncology. Currently, he is in private practice, and Associate
Professor at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. He is also
a Bioethicist at Akron-General Medical Center and Medical Director of Justin
Rodgers Hospice Care Center.
In addition, Sharon and John have been leading a series of workshops on
Sexuality, Intimacy, and Affectivity for the seminarians at the Byzantine
Catholic Seminary. John is studying for the Diaconate at the Byzantine
Catholic Seminary of Sts. Cyril and Methodius.

From East:
PA Turnpike W to Pittsburgh Exit 6. Follow 376 W toward Pittsburgh.
Proceed through Squirrel Hill Tunnel. As you are passing through
downtown, you will see signs for Fort Pitt Bridge. Cross bridge and
head through Fort Pitt Tunnel. As you exit the tunnel you will be on
279 S to Airport. Go 2 miles and take the GreenTree/Crafton exit. The
ramp will split immediately so veer to the left. At stop sign make
left onto Mansfield Ave. Go through exactly two lights and The
Radisson Hotel will be the next drive on the right. |
From West:
Take Pa Turnpike (76 East) to 79 South. Follow this to exit for 279
South to Pittsburgh. Follow this to downtown Pittsburgh and then
follow signs for Fort Pitt Bridge. Continue as in directions from
East. |
From North:
Take 79 South to exit 279 South to Pittsburgh. Follow this to
downtown Pittsburgh where you will follow the directions to the Fort
Pitt Bridge. Continue as in directions from the East. |
From the South Hills:
Take Route 19 N (Washington Road) and follow it to Cochran Road.
Turn left onto Cochran Road and follow to Green Tree Road (Route 121
North). Bear right onto Green Tree Road. Green Tree Road crosses over
I-279 overpass. As you cross over, please stay in left hand lane. You
will turn left onto Mansfield Avenue. Go through exactly two lights
and The Radisson Hotel will be the next drive on the right. |
