Pittsburgh, PA - 07/11/02 - The Byzantine Catholic
Seminary of Pittsburgh, PA, has announced a new Master's Degree Program in
Byzantine Catholic Theology, offered in collaboration with Duquesne
University of Pittsburgh.
Very Reverend Archpriest John G. Petro, Rector of the Seminary, said the new
program, which is open to laity and clergy, prepares students who choose to
specialize in Byzantine Liturgy, Sacred Scripture or Dogmatic Theology.
The MA program includes introductory courses in theological method, biblical
studies and liturgical studies. Students take 18 credits (6 courses) in
their chosen area of concentration (Liturgy, Scripture or Dogma) and 12
elective credits (4 courses) in other areas of theology and related
disciplines from among the many courses offered by the Byzantine Catholic
Seminary and the Graduate Department of Theology at Duquesne. A minimum of 4
courses (12 credits) must be taken at Duquesne. Students must also pass
written comprehensive examinations to earn the degree.
To qualify for admission to the new program applicants must possess an
undergraduate degree from an accredited institution and must demonstrate the
ability to pursue theological studies on the graduate level. Applicants
without sufficient background in philosophy and the humanities may be
required to complete one or more undergraduate courses before beginning
theological studies.
The approximate cost for the entire degree program is approximately $8,000.
